When "Yellowbeard" was announced in pre-production filmmakers Michael Mileham and Phil Schuman were looking to make a behind the scenes film with a "hook". They got the "hook" and the biggest collection of wacky comics ever assembled since "Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". The filmmakers negotiated unprecedented terms that allowed complete access to the stars anywhere anytime and first class accommodations with the stars. What happened was an amazing intimacy with the stars resulting in a remarkable film. The film contains an original song written and performed by Harry Nilsson. Hugh Herbert from Andre Roussin's risque stage farce that has become a staple of community theatres, The Little Hut is totally reliant upon the charms of stars Ava Gardner, Stewart Granger and David Niven. Granger is a businessman who is too busy to pay attention to wife Gardner (is he blind?) David Niven is the couple's best friend, who harbors a secret longing for Gardner. All three are stranded on a desert island; you take it from there. Despite the much-touted scenes of Ava Gardner in a skimpy negligee, the film version of The Little Hut is about as racy as Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. Some of the beautiful songs included are "If We Were in Love," "I Left my Heart in San Francisco," and a number of arias by Verdi, Ponchielli, Donizetti and Puccini. Falling in love with Selena (Pier Angeli), the acrobat daughter of carnival owner Antonio Gallini (Salvatore Baccaloni), Professor Larabee soon finds himself participating in their show as a clown, ringmaster, and (accidental) lion-tamer. Lisa has a friend (Jenica Bergere) who encourages her to stick with Mike, while Mike has a friend (Ryan Bollman) who is tired of his best buddy not being able to hang out with him because he'd rather be with a beautiful woman. However, the real fly in the ointment is that Mike also has a girlfriend (Elizabeth Lackey) who happens to be away when Boy and Girl meet. Will Mike chose to stick with his new flame, go back to his older infatuation, or forget both of them and go grab a brew with his pals? Meanwhile, he robs the gas stations of an oil company which he feels has cheated him, and is pursued by Bible-thumping lawman Deacon Gore (Art Carney). W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings is highlighted by musical renditions from Conny Van Dyke, Jerry Reed and Furry Lewis--and from Ned Beatty, playing an image-conscious Porter Wagoner type.
